Yoshimitsu Yamada, Chairperson to the United States Aikido Federation

Yoshimitsu Yamada Sensei was born on February 17, 1938 in Toyko, Japan. In 1955, at the age of 17, he entered the Hombu Dojo as an uchi deshi (live-in student) where he trained under the instruction of Morihei Ueshiba O'Sensei, the founder of Aikido. He became a full time instructor at the Hombu Dojo after training there for three years. He also taught at Japanese Universities and American Military Bases. In 1964 with the rank of 4th Dan he was sent by Hombu Dojo to the United States World Fair to give a demonstration of Aikido. Yamada Sensei remained in New York as the chief instructor of the New York Aikikai which is affiliated with the Hombu Dojo.  Yamada Sensei presently holds the rank of (8th Dan) Shihan.  Currently Yamada Sensei is the Chairman of the Board of the United States Aikido Federation and the leader of the Eastern Region. He is also the President of the Latin American Aikido Federation which has dojos in South America, Central America and the Caribbean. He is a member of the Superior Council of the International Aikido Federation and leads the technical committee for North America.

Yamada Sensei has decidated his life to the teaching of Aikido throughout the world. He is the author of several books on Aikido, his latest being "Aikido Complete". He has also made many excellent training videos featuring the fundamental testing requirements for the kyu ranks. Yamada Sensei travels worldwide conducting seminars that are attended by thousands of students. He is known for his clear and strong basic technique. Brevard Aikikai is honored to be under his direction.
